Horley care home hosts community gardening day for residents

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together At Wykeham House spruce up the garden ready for plenty of summer fun on April 13.The Life Enrichment team invited people from the local community to join in painting and planting ready for the summer sun! Guests included friends and family to the residents and staff at the home, members of WI and local buisnesses to join in the day. Residents and volunteers came to support in making over the memory lane garden.Our memory lane unit is for residents with dementia and houses 21 residents in total. The garden area was made comfortable with freshly painted benches and residents painted high-rise planters where they will grow herbs and vegetables over the summer.Volunteers and residents planted up a grow wall and several new pots for the area.Resident, Ron said, “It was good to see everyone come together to make the garden look great. It is nice to have some colour and some beautiful flowers to look over when we look out of the window."Me and my wife planted flowers and we hope the residents in memory lane enjoy watering them!”Julia, General Manager at the home, said: “Staff at Wykeham House are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. Wykeham House provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 76 residents from respite care to long term stays.
